HEED THE WARNING
AVOID THE CONSEQUENCE

Any source of authority in religion other than the Bible is strictly prohibited. “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed” (Galatians 1:6-9). Everything pertaining to life and godliness for every age had been delivered by the end of the first century. “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (II Peter 1:3-4). “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book” (Revelation 22:18-19).

AVOID THE CONSEQUENCE

The coming of Jesus Christ will not be preceded by any signs of His coming. “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up” (II Peter 3:10). “For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness” (I Thessalonians 5:2-5). “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come” said Jesus in Matthew 25:42. Jesus said in Matthew 24:43-44, “But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

HEED THE WARNING
AVOID THE CONSEQUENCE

The New Testament is the will of God for every soul in every nation since the death of Jesus Christ on Calvary. Jesus commissioned His apostles, Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. (Matthew 28:19-20). After His ascension to the right hand of God (Hebrews 1:3; 8:1; 10:12; 12:2), Jesus sent the Holy Spirit unto His apostles to ...teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you (John 14:26). There are those who say Jesus did not address the matter of homosexuality. Not so. The Holy Spirit, sent by Jesus, inspired the apostle Paul to write in I Corinthians 6:9-10, Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. The apostle later in that same epistle said, If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord (I Corinthians 14:37).

HEED THE WARNING
AVOID THE CONSEQUENCE

Gambling has no place in the life of one claiming to be a disciple of Jesus Christ...a Christian. Gambling is the fruit of covetousness. The Greek word for “covetousness” literally means “a desire to have more, always in a bad sense, is used in a general way in Mark 7:22; Rom. 1:29; Eph. 5:3; I Thess. 2:5.” Jesus said in Mark 7:20-23, “That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: all these evil things come from within, and defile the man.” The amount involved in gambling is inconsequential; it is the motivation manifested in action which is soul-damning. The mindset of humanity is, “If some good comes from doing evil, then the evil is good” (Romans 3:8). Such is lie. The “covetous” are explicitly identified I Corinthians 6:10 among those who “...shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”
The Christians comprising the Lord's church in Ephesus were admonished by the apostle Paul in Ephesians 5:3, “But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints.” Heaven has spoken. One time is one time too many! The amount is not at issue. The consequences are clear. How will you respond?

35th Week (March 28, 2004)
HEED THE WARNING
AVOID THE CONSEQUENCE

Disciples of Jesus Christ - Christians - adhere to a moral standard which is irreproachable. The Greek word for “lasciviousness” literally means “wanton (acts or) manners, as filthy words, indecent bodily movements, unchaste handling of males and females, etc.” (A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament, Joseph Henry Thayer, DD, p. 79, #766). Jesus said in Mark 7:20-23, “That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: all these evil things come from within, and defile the man.” Lasciviousness is listed in Galatians 5:19-21 as a sin which will deny one a place in the kingdom of God. It's a sin that leads to fornication and, thus, in too many cases to conception of illegitimate children. That condition then leads to ungodly decisions about abortion, or to a hastily arranged marriage, which more times than not, ends in divorce. More times than not, children born as a consequence of the sin of lasciviousness are reared in a broken home without the love and nurturing due them (see Ephesians 6:1-4).
The divinely inspired apostle Paul penned these words in II Corinthians 12:21, “...I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.”

HEED THE WARNING
AVOID THE CONSEQUENCE
Christians - disciples of Jesus Christ - continue in the word, the doctrine, the teaching of Jesus Christ. The words of the Master, the Lord Jesus Christ are, “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed” (John 8:31). No one who rejects any portion of His doctrine can truly be a disciple of His.
Every time Jesus talked about the marriage relationship it was with reference to a man (male) and a woman (female). Jesus said in Matthew 19:6-9, “Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” Mark records the exact same conversation in Mark 10:6-9.
When the Holy Spirit directed apostles wrote about the marriage relationship it was always with reference to a man (male) and a woman (female). In Ephesians 5:23, the apostle Paul penned these words: “For the husband is the head of the wife...as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church...So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.”
The God-ordained institution of marriage is reserved for a male and a female. Any other arrangement is ungodly and unnatural (Romans 1:26-27).

HEED THE WARNING
AVOID THE CONSEQUENCE
Jesus warned the Pharisees and the scribes against practicing “traditions of the elders” as religion and rejecting the commands of God. The Pharisees and scribes had seen the disciples of Jesus eat with unwashed hands (Mark 7:2). They asked Jesus, “Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?” (Mark 7:5). “He answered and said unto them, `Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: “This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.” For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men - the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such thing you do...All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition” (Mark 7:5-9).
The only place one can learn of the origin of the Easter celebration is from the writings of men...not the Commandments of God! “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” (Colossians 3:17). No place in the New Testament - the complete doctrine of Christ - can one find direction for Easter; how to observe it; nor when to observe it. It is from the traditions of men and not the commandment of God. “For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book” (Revelation 22:18).

HEED THE WARNING
AVOID THE CONSEQUENCE
The disciples of Jesus - Christians - must practice only what is found in His doctrine. “Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, `If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed'” (John 8:31). Jesus said in Matthew 5:17, “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”
Once He fulfilled the law - Mosaic law - He nailed it to His cross. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross” (Colossians 2:13-14). Consequently, no tenet of the law of Moses may be incorporated into the doctrine of Christ by men without being severed from Christ. “And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law. You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace” (Galatians 5:3-4). “Tithing” (giving 10%) is a practice imposed upon Jews through the law of Moses which Jesus nailed to the cross. Jesus made no such decree in His doctrine - anywhere. Nowhere in the doctrine of Jesus Christ is mention made of the use of mechanical instruments of music in worship. Without fail, those who seek to justify tithing and mechanical instruments of music in worship, rationalize such from the law of Moses which Jesus nailed to His cross. “He has made the first obsolete” (Hebrews 8:13).
